My best friend, Asteria, and I came up with the idea to make and run each other’s Hinge accounts. Technically, I think we got the idea from TikTok/Instagram. My account is attached to her phone number, and she made me send her countless photos of myself to create my profile. I did the same for her. And then we’d swipe on guys we thought were the other’s type. I’m gonna be honest, that was the messiest part. It took a minute, but I understood who Asteria was attracted to better than she did for me.
We let the guys know that they were talking to the best friend and that they’d be grilled. Which, honestly, 10/10 recommend. Men are more honest when they aren’t talking to the girl they’re into. I could ask about gainful employment and mommy issues without it being a faux pas. Okay, maybe it was, but who cares.
Is it the best experiment? Maybe not. Asteria was straight up hazing the men and scared some off. She gave my number to two guys; one never texted and the other… I feel like he just never talked to a girl before. He couldn’t hold a conversation. Via text.
Asteria also asked a guy if he was hitler.
My approach was more to throw a list of questions at them and pass them if I liked the answers. I gave her number to four guys. One never texted, but to be fair, I didn’t open the app for a couple of days. I essentially ghosted him before sending her info. Of the three she talked to, Asteria ended up ghosting one dude, had a date, and the other ghosted her (karma imo).
This experiment is still ongoing, except we’ve switched logins and now mostly run our own Hinge. Although she’ll still log in to my account and text guys asking if they’ll murder me.
Thanks for being overprotective, but you scared off my Aussie (she was not spelling anything right).
Anyhow, now neither of us cares to date because. Well. How do I put this? There’s just a bunch of unemployed, unattractive men. Asteria just signed with a company that offered her a starting salary of 80k. She doesn’t want to date a 24yo that’s still living at home and stocking groceries.
I’m graduating college at 20 and interviewing for positions at a 70k salary. Love the abs, Icarus, but you’re 27, work at Bass Pro, and still trying to figure out life.
And honestly, I don’t think either of us are being that picky. Some would say we’re gold diggers. That term is thrown around far too often. God forbid a woman wants a man who has career goals and pays his own rent.
However, we are still stuck on this app because we made a bet to go on three first dates this month or find a boyfriend. I don’t have high hopes for the boyfriend aspect, but I can manage to land three first dates.
Wish me luck, supposedly I have one tomorrow
